April Beauty Must Haves

  1. Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Kiss Cupuacu Lip Butter– Growing up I had like 30 chapsticks at once, now in my mid-20s, not much has changed except for the brands I hoard. This Lip Butter was a great addition to my obsession collection. It smells like summer and is very moisturizing. It keeps my lips hydrated for hours and leaves my lips looking healthier. ($18)

  1. Hype Nail Polish – An all natural nail polish brand from my very own hometown. What won me over with these polishes was the color vibrancy. They go on colorful and stay nice and shiny for about 9 days, which is great for a non gel polish. ($8 each)

  1. Tartan &Twine Travel Bags – When I travel I take a ridiculous amount of makeup and about 80% of my skincare routine products with me and I like it all to be organized. These makeup bags have helped me do just that. They come with multiple compartments to store whatever you need and they fit SO MUCH. I took this with me to New York and I swear it was so perfect. They also come in the cutest prints and have a hook so you can hook it behind a door! ($30)

  1. DCL Detoxifying Clay Mask – Raise your hand if you are a mask junkie as I am! ::raises hand:: This mask is awesome! It is dermatologist approved and helps clear the gunk out of your pores. After using twice a week for a month I noticed my pores looked tighter and I had reduced my blackheads. It also helps to stop breakouts whenever I get a really bad one. ($50)

  1. Algenist REVEAL Luminating Drops– This is my first experience with drops and it was a good one. This is more of an illuminating then correcting formula. It has anti-aging properties which is a great bonus. I use it two ways: first being mixing it into my foundation for an overall glow & secondly as a highlighter in specific areas I wanted a little extra shimmer. I like that this is subtle yet makes my skin look healthy.  ($38)

  1. Batiste Dry Shampoo – If you know me personally, you know that my hair is 80% dry shampoo all the time. Being a redhead it helps me avoid washing my color out on a weekly basis, so I’ve tried a ton of shampoos. This one is by far a favorite! It leaves white residue but comes out fast and smells great. It leaves my hair oil free and restores the volume. Plus, for the price it’s a major deal. ($6)

  1. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – Like masks, I am also obsessed with matte liquid lipsticks. I stumbled across this brand while browsing Sephora and I now want to buy every color known to man. The formula is soft and doesn’t dry your lips out. It goes on super easy and with great color, plus does not move or fade no matter how much you drink or eat. I love it even more than the Stila ones. ($20)

  1. AOA Scrubby Facial Cleansing Pad– This little face scrubbing tool is only ONE DOLLAR and it’s awesome! I use it to gently exfoliate my skin in the morning. It’s made from a silicone material that’s soft and east on your skin. I also stick it in my overnight bag when I travel when I can’t take my Clarisonic with me to make sure my skin is still being exfoliated. For a $1, this is a must buy. ($1)

  1. Instant Perfection Peel Pads– I use one of these bad boys right before my makeup to smooth my skin and close pores to help give my skin a perfect canvas for makeup. They gently exfoliate my skin with daily use and help my skin give a more even texture. ($49)

  1. Anastasia Brow Gel Clear – If you are a fellow make up obsessed woman, I feel like you already know that anything Anastasia is AMAZING. This brow gel has become a staple in my makeup bag, I use it alone on days where I’m not wearing much makeup to keep my brows tamed and then on days I fill in my brows I use it to set them in place. ($22)

5 Tips to Keep Your Clothes From Fading

If you’re anything like me you hate clothes that start to look dingy and faded, especially when it’s your favorite top! Lucky for you, I teamed up with Downy to bring you 5 quick and easy tips to keep you clothes looking as good as day one!

this-home-has-endless-love-and-laundry-black

Tip 1: Follow Directions

The care label will let you know the best way to wash each garment: water temperature, cycle speed (or hand-wash), and more. Learn more about reading a manufacturer’s care label

Tip 2: Turn Clothes Inside Out

Let agitation take its toll on the insides of your garments, and help preserve the colors you fell in love with.

Tip 3: Wash Clothes in Cold Water

Even if the care label calls for warm or hot water, cold water is your best choice for helping protect a garment’s color. Warm water makes fibers more prone to releasing dye to the wash water.

Tip 4: Use the Gentle Cycle

Usually used for delicate items, the gentle cycle agitates and spins, well, gently. Using the gentle cycle means you significantly reduce abrasion to your garments.

Tip 5: Use a Fabric Conditioner

Downy® fabric conditioner lubricates the fibers in your clothes. This reduces abrasion and, as a result, reduces dye loss. Downy also helps prevent pilling, which helps your garments hold on to their original colors and keep their fresh appearance—for a brighter-looking you.

September Beauty Must Haves

A little late on this one, but hey better late than never right? This month includes my HOLY GRAIL of a primer for oily skin, a frizz-fighting lotion and a mascara that makes my lashes look fake. Let’s get started, shall we?

  1. Sephora Collection Sleeping Masks – I love these little masks! I mostly like them for travel purposes, stick a few in my beauty bag and I can still treat my skin while on the go. There’s about 12 to choose from, each focusing on a specific skin problem. I personally like the Pearl and Green Tea ones best. Just cleanse your face throughly, apply toner and then one of the pods before bed and let it get to work. If you’re careful, you can get about 3 uses out of each pod. ($4 each)

2. Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer – THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER INVENTED. I’m sorry to yell, but seriously guys this shit is awesome. I have super oily skin and this has saved my face from looking a mess. This is pricey, but a little goes a long way. It glides on like silk and leave your skin ready for your makeup. Pores? GONE. Oil? GONE. I put this to the test in the Miami humidity and my face was shine free after about 5 hours, and after that only a slight shine popped through. I cannot recommend this enough. If you get one thing from the round up, this needs to be it. (1.0 oz for $54)

3. Estée Lauder Pure Color EnvyLiquid Lip Potion – These are great for my lipstick loving gals. This innovative liquid lipstick hybrid plumps with continuous moisture. It saturates with high-intensity color without sticky shine so lips look pretty much perfect. Color lasts close to 8 hours (tested it!) and the finish is a satin-matte look. I loved how my lips felt good wearing these, not dry and gross like my matte lipsticks. I also loved the applicator. It’s shaped perfectly for your lips and makes application a breeze. ($32)

4. Ouidad Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel – Second favorite thing in this round up is this bad boy. I have thick and wavy hair that frizzes as soon as I walk out the door and this worked great to control that. I put this to the test both in Disneyworld and Key West humidity and it kept my natural beach waves looking perfect and frizz free. It does feel strange on your hair if you put too much so make sure to apply only a little bit to sectioned off hair and then style as usual. Your hair will not expand in the heat and stay all pretty and perfect. Must have! ($26)

5. Morgan Taylor Fall Nail Collection – I’m a gel girl but these colors had me swooning. They are super pigmented and go on great. My nails stayed chip free for about 8 days which is amazing for me considering my hands are always put to the test on a weekly basis. My favorite from the collection was Looking For A Wingman, a berry red color perfect for fall. ($9 each)

6. Giorgio Armani Eccentrico Mascara – I never stick to one mascara for too long, but this mascara seems like it will be my new go-to for quite some time. It is uh ma zing. First off, I love the mascara wand! It grips your lashes and fans them out. Secondly, the color is black as night , A+ for that! Then lastly the way it makes my lashes look is beyond perfect. My lashes look almost fake! Separated with some volume and curl that would rival even the best falsies. It also doesn’t flake off during the day and doesn’t get clumpy, thank jesus! ($32)

7. Drybar Prep Rally – If you’ve ever visited a Drybar, you know how awesome they are and their products are no different. I love their dry shampoo & conditioner, but their Prep Rally is a favorite. It smells great and has lots of hair loving vitamins to help keep hair shiny and healthy. It also detangles your hair prior to brushing and helps cut down on dry time which is a major plus! ($23)

8. Giorgio Armani Eye Tint – It took me awhile to grow to love these but in the end, they ended up being great. The thing I love about these eye tints are they stay on all day long and never ever crease. I like to use the lighter side (#24) as a base for my shadow on a daily basis. My absolute favorite was #12, Gold Ashes. It’s shimmery and oh so beautiful on. I’ve worn it alone with some liner and it looks gorgeous. The only thing about these is that you have to work fast as they dry from liquid to powder and once dry, it’s on forever. ($39)

9. Bella Aura Antioxidant Serum Booster – I cannot stress to you enough how important taking care of your skin is. This tiny but powerful bottle helps you do just that. The serum helps your skin detox from daily impurities that can cause your skin to age and lose its glow. It’s packed with vitamins, minerals and fatty acids to help smooth out skin, fight blotchiness and boost your radiance. I love how light it felt on my skin and how after a few days of consistent use, my face looked smoother and had a subtle glow to it. I put this on in the AM and PM after cleansing and before my sunscreen. ($125)

10. Level Shower Bombs – I’m sure you’ve all heard of bath bombs, but have you ever tried a shower bomb? It’s like a mini spa experience while you shower. What this little bomb lacks in size it makes up for in airway-clearing, spa-steaming, aromatherapy goodness. Menthol and lavender oils help to open your sinuses and relax the mind, surrounding you with a cooling and calming fog as you shower. Just place on the floor of your shower beneath the stream of water, but away from the drain, breathe deeply and enjoy! I love it for a mid-week treat or whenever I’m feeling extra stressed out! ($8 for a 4pack)

All Your Questions About Botox Answered

Hello my fashion disciples! Recently I started to notice some very faint fine lines popping up around my forehead and I dived deep into the world of anti-aging in a pure panic to prevent them from getting worse. The older I get the more I have began to worry about my skin and its appearance, I mean I won’t be 25 forever people! Amongst the countless serums and creams I found to help me on my quest to a flawless face, the option to get Botox appeared again and again. Botox seemed like a drastic measure to take at such a young age and surely I didn’t want to look “frozen” so I decided to get some answers about Botox and how even at my age, it can be a step in the right direction for a wrinkle-free complexion. I had the chance to sit down with Danielle Smith NP-C, co-founder of Miami’s own BotoxLABB, during Miami Swim Week and have all my questions answered. Labb was created by beauty guru Joey Chancis, founder of Joey New York, together with her partner Danielle Smith. See below for the full interview! xx

Tiffany 2

T: So Danielle, what exactly is Botox?

D: BOTOX® Cosmetic is designed to reduce the repetitive muscle contractions that cause frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. Lines and wrinkles caused by active movements or expressions are what we call dynamic wrinkles. As the BOTOX® Cosmetic takes effect (about 5 to 7 days) you will notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.

T: Okay perfect because you see these forehead lines, they are not cute! I feel that Botox is usually for someone older than myself though. At what age should someone start doing Botox?

D: Well first let me start by saying that everyone is different. There are a lot of factors that play into facial aging and premature aging, including sun exposure, environment, diet, hydration, skin care and good ol’ genetics. The best time to start is when you are looking in a mirror and you make an expression to see the lines, then relax. Are the lines still there? Even faintly, can you see an impression of it? If you answer yes, then it’s time for some Botox! Those lines you see will only continue to increase with continued muscle use and exposure. It is much easier to do BOTOX® Cosmetic once a year on a preventative front, rather than coming in a few years down the road and having to do much more to correct those deeper lines. Similar to a healthy diet and exercise routine, it is never too late to start but the sooner you start, the better the results will be.

T: Well my lines definitely stay there after I do my a thousand and one expressions. I have seen so many people with this horrible “frozen” look to their face from Botox though, I’m terrified I’ll come out looking like a statue. Is there any way to avoid this “frozen” look?

D: I know the look you’re talking about and rest assured there are ways to avoid it. First off, go light – if you go light though, expect it not to hold as long and may require you to come in more frequently. You can also rotate the areas you inject instead of doing all three at once. For example, do the crows feet then move onto the forehead next appointment.Even though the frozen look isn’t for you, some people do enjoy this look. At The Labb we are very conservative and always prefer to provide a natural look. We focus on smoothing out the wrinkles but allow movement so it doesn’t look like you have had Botox. It simply looks as if you look youthful and refreshed. We do get some requests from our clients who want to have a “frozen” tighter and smoother look. Some other effects we can achieve with Botox include a subtle brow lift. After we spend time discussing the options we always work together to get the results our clients are looking for.

T: Yeah, no frozen look for me. I love my expressions too much! So if I take the plunge and get botox, what’s my maintenance plan looking like for touch ups and such?

D: When first starting with a patient, I tell them to expect to come in for a touch up. It takes building a relationship with the patient to get to know what they like and to see how the products work for them. I much prefer to be conservative to start and then add on whatever additional is needed for a touch up. For maintenance, it depends on how far along you are in the aging cycle to determine how often you would need to come in to re-do your BOTOX® Cosmetic. If you have moderate to severe wrinkles I would recommend staying on top of your BOTOX® Cosmetic cycle with consistency at every 3 to 4 months. If you are more of a preventative case, you can get away with doing BOTOX® Cosmetic once every 6 months to a year.

T: Well, it’s looking like I might have you set up an appointment sooner than later to get these wrinkles in check before I hit 30! Thanks so much for your time and explaining it all to me! I feel much more comfortable now and have a better understanding of Botox and what it can do for me.

D: You’re welcome! Hopefully, we will see you at the LABB soon!

Make a Style Statement by Hooking Up with Your Own Closet

I teamed up with writers Sharon White and Janna Beatty, whom are co-authors of QUINTESSENTIAL STYLE: Cultivate and Communicate Your Signature Look to teach you all on how to shop your own closet. Check out their tips below ! xx

d749e43f-d83e-47f9-aac4-99b1a3ef791b

Who can forget the scene from the movie “Clueless,” where main character Cher goes to her computer screen to find her outfit for the day? She clicks on clothing images, chooses a look, and tries them on her avatar. When her computer-generated ensemble is complete, she pulls the real thing out of her closet. You can do exactly that, once you learn to ‘shop your own closet.’

Chances are pretty good that you have everything in your closet right now to style your best looks. Your closet can be your first and best source for dressing, because everything behind that door was hand-selected by you. It didn’t just walk in there on its own. Put on a little music and make a date in your own personal boutique. Invite your full-length mirror and just play ‘dress up.’

Here’s how to get more out of your wardrobe by ‘shopping your own closet:

  1. Define your look. The Fashion Bible, Pinterest, and other websites are great sources for on-trend inspiration. Notice accessories and details you can incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Make single purchases–like an off-the-shoulder top or chunky heels–to mix with what you have.
  2. Rediscover things you may have forgotten about. Don’t let clothes in the back of your closet miss out on all the fun. Pull them out and let them join the party.
  3. Try on key pieces and rework them in different ways. Mix garments with other pieces you’ve never paired together before. Turn a button-down into a button-up. Mix a bomber jacket with a chiffon dress.
  4. When you buy something new, introduce it around. Every time you bring something into the group, let the other clothes in your closet meet the new kid in town. It’s surprising how many besties your newbie will find.
  5. Shop in unexpected places. No closet is off limits. Try your aunt’s closet for a midi housedress, thin belt, or a circle skirt. Or borrow a white t-shirt or Huaraches from your little brother.

Create an inspiration board of fashion ideas just like professional stylists, interior decorators, and costume designers. Hang it in your closet, so you can refer to it when dressing. Don’t be blinded by the flash of fashion, but do surround yourself with creativity.

Your fashion identity begins in your closet—who will you be today? Your closet should be your happy place, where visions flow. Become the premier designer in your own personal atelier. Choosing outfits for yourself—not the trendsetters–simply because you love the way they make you look and feel.

Your Guide to Color Correcting

Hello beauties! In the last few months I’ve seen women coloring their faces different colors in an attempt to make redness, dark circles, and imperfections disappear  and if you’re like me you were or are lost as to how in the world you can make it work for you! Never fear, as always TFB is here to light the way. I’ve compiled a guide to color correcting where you can learn what works for which imperfection and the best way to apply the colors!

After learning how to correctly color correct, I can say it is AWESOME. My dark circles are gone and my redness is basically invisible. This is a great way to step up your make up routine and it takes an extra 5 min to add this to your makeup routine.

If we look at the color wheel, we will see each of the colors. Opposite each one of them is a color that has the exact strength to cancel the other one, For example, red is across from green; they cancel each other out. When applied to the human face, the same sort of cancellation happens on the skin as it would on canvas.

2f2d27f454e4490192f0a94c4d893b62

Let’s take a look at what color works for what skin issue to find which colors you should be using:

Green concealer under foundation cancels out acne, sunburn, rosacea, and visible capillaries.

Yellow concealer lightens darker skin tones and combats purple under-eye circles or bruises.

Peach concealer conceals under-eye circles on olive skin tones, and counterbalances deep blue skin associated with the weariest of under-eye darkness.

Pink concealer brightens the complexion and combats sallow undertones in fair to medium skin tones. Purple does the same.

Blue concealer adds radiance to skin and brightens porcelain and fair skin tones.

Caramel counteracts ashiness on medium and dark skin tones.

Now how to apply: Start off by cleansing your face as usual and applying any toners and moisturizers. The apply the correct color concealer to your problem area. I usually apply yellow under my eyes and green on my blemishes.

After you apply, blend blend blend! I love to blend with a damp beauty blender. After its all blended I apply my foundation and then if I need it, a little skin colored concealer on top. Set with setting powder and VIOLA! Perfect looking skin!

Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

This gem came along and I fell in love. After a few days of use, it left me with a pretty bronzed glow , not orange at all. I used it everyday after showering and it smells like summer! Be warned though, wash your hands after applying or you will have weird brown marks in between your fingers the next day!

3. Junetics Pure Energy Eye Cream – The eye cream is so light and comes with a 5 roller ball applicator which makes it so easy to apply. It diminishes fine lines, puffiness, dark circles and brightens your eyes as soon as you put it on. It felt so hydrating and I saw an improvement with my dark circles after a week of using. 9. ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment – THIS STUFF IS SO DAMN GOOD. Yes, all caps were necessary. I got a sample of this at Sephora to help with my peeling skin due to retinol and it has saved my face. My face looks so glowy and smooth after I use this, I’m obsessed. This is a dual-action exfoliator that smooths and polishes to reveal a glowing, radiant complexion in as little as one use while unclogging pores. This scrub is also free of sulfates, parabens and other nasty stuff making it a great choice. This is made to be even more effective if you use it in the shower, the steam helps activate the enzymes! Apply, scrub for 30 seconds in circular motions, leave on for 2min then rinse and admire your beautiful glowing skin! The price is steep but WORTH IT and a little goes a long way so it lasts forever. 10. DiorSkin Forever Foundation – While on the hunt for a perfect foundation, I stumbled across this gem. This foundation has SPF, is long lasting and makes your skin look better over time with its pore refining technology. This foundation feels so light on the skin and doesn’t give a cakey look. It’s light enough for everyday wear and is medium to full coverage. I love how my skin looks after applying and it lasts forever! Dior’s foundations really are the best! ($50)

Current Favorite: Made Beautiful Hair Line

IMG_0598

As a woman who struggles with thick, wavy hair, lots of it I made add; I am constantly battling frizz and lack luster natural hair. I love products that aim to help make your natural hair beautiful and helps women embrace the curls and waves they were born with and the search for such products came to an end with Made Beautiful. I received these products to test out and never did I think I would like them so much.

Made beautiful is a line committed to helping their customers embrace their beauty and love their hair, body and themselves. How can you not love that motto?

Each product in the line is au natural & free from parabens, sulfates & all those chemicals which give your hair a slow , slow death.  The products are made with shea, honey, coconut and mango and let me tell you something, the smell alone made me obsessed with the line. Each product smells like a tropical island getaway in a bottle and made my hair smell just as good. So be warned, you WILL start sniffing your strands randomly after using this stuff and yes, you will look weird doing so. The products are also labeled with the specific hair type the product will help. I especially loved this because it takes the guessing game out of buying hair products not knowing whether it’s the right fit for your hair type.

Mine is 2C for wavy, others include :

CURLY ~ CURLY COILY ~ COILY

3A/B            3C                           4B/C

After figuring out which products were right for me, I settled on using the Moisturizing shampoo, Nourishing Leave in Conditioner, Conditioning Styling Creme & Quench Curl Refresher. Out of all of those the Leave-In and the Curl Refresher are my absolute favorite! My hair looked so healthy and shiny and frizz was at a minimum. My waves looked refreshed, more defined and most of all healthy. Being a color addict, all the dye takes a toll on my hair and I really felt that this helped  repair the damage and keep my hair hydrated long after it had dried.

All in all I give the line a huge thumbs up. I loved it! Try it out and let me hear your thoughts!

20 Things To Let Go Of To Be Happy

In life, there’s always more to learn. With the New Year right around the corner I bring you 20 things that you NEED to let go of in order to truly achieve happiness. Read it, print it out, keep it in mind.

Written on Elite Daily by the fab Ashley Fern

1. The Approval Of Others

Who gives a sh*t what other people think? If you are happy with the decisions you have made, then whose business is that but your own? Think of how much you could achieve if you stopped letting other people’s opinions dictate the way you live your life. Do you, and engage in whatever actions you think might better your life.

2. Anger/Resentment

Anger will eat at you from the inside. Learn how to make peace with those who have wronged you. This isn’t about letting the other person off the hook; it’s about alleviating the pain that resonates within you. Keep in mind that he who angers you, controls you.

3. Negative Body Image

There is only one person’s opinion you should be concerned with when it comes to your body and that is you. No one person determines what the “correct” body type is. If you are comfortable in your own skin, and you are healthy, then that should be the only thing that matters. Do not let others tell you that you’re not beautiful because if you believe you are, then you are.

4. Idea Of A Perfect Partner

There is no such thing as a perfect partner, so throw your checklist out the window. In life, what prevents us from moving forward is looking at the perfect image of a partner we concoct in our minds. Find the right person for you: one that you can love with all your heart, one you feel comfortable with and one that accepts you for the person you are. The sooner you realize there isn’t one perfect person out there for you, the better off you will be.

“He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn’t going to quote poetry, he’s not thinking about you every moment, but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don’t hurt him, don’t change him, and don’t expect for more than he can give. Don’t analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he’s not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don’t exist, but there’s always one guy that is perfect for you.” – Bob Marley

5. Perfect Life

Just like there is no perfect partner, there is also not a perfect life. Life is what you put into it, so if you are not willing to work hard and put forth effort, you will most likely end up miserable. The choices you make will directly reflect the life you lead. It is up to you to create the best possible world for yourself.

6. You’re Going To Be Rich

Too many people live their lives with the thought that they will be millionaires. While this can be a realistic goal for some, it is not something that can be achieved without hard work and dedication. Stop letting money be your sole motivator; find a career you are passionate about and immerse yourself in it completely.

7. The Idea That Good Fortune Will Arrive At Your Doorstep

You need to go out into the world and actively look for fulfillment. You cannot take a backseat in life and expect things to happen for you. Appreciate the life you live, and be grateful for what you have. Value each minute of every day. Live like there’s no tomorrow, and make the most out of any situation.

8. Excuses

Make no time for excuses. You want to work out, but you don’t have the time? Wake up early and get your gym on. Excuses are only rationalizations that make you feel better about yourself for not doing something you want/need to be doing. You desire results? Stop bitching, and start doing.

9. Thoughts Of Your Ex

This person is your ex for a reason. If you are going to think of him or her at all, try and think only about the lessons the experience taught you. Do not linger on any old feelings, as this will only prevent you from being happy with someone else in the future.

10. Stubbornness

I know it’s hard to admit, but sometimes you are just wrong. Other people have just as much capability as you do in providing the correct answer, so stop being stubborn and just embrace it. The less stubborn you act, the more open you are to learning new things. Think of all you could be exposed to if you stopped believing in opinions other than your own.

11. Procrastination

Stop thinking you will finally get to whatever task is at hand tomorrow. Live in the present, and get your sh*t done when it needs to be done. Maximize your time to the best of your ability. Complete each task you need to as soon as you can. This allows you to feel free from worry and stress by getting things out of the way as soon as possible. You also allow yourself more free time to enjoy the things you love.

12. Your Baggage

We have all been hurt one time or another by someone we loved, or we thought we loved. Carrying negative feelings into future relationships will only prove to be disastrous. No two people are the same, so it’s unfair to hold a future partner to a standard set by an ex. Try to begin each new relationship with a clean slate.

13. Negativity

What you put out into the universe will come back to you, so change the way you think, immediately. Stop thinking of life as a glass half empty, but rather, half full. You have so much to be grateful for, if only you took a moment to appreciate it. Anything is possible in the mind of a positive thinker.

14. Judgmental Thoughts

Why do people feel the need to constantly worry about what is going on in other people’s lives? If we spent as much time worrying about our own behaviors as we do worrying about those of others, our lives would be a whole lot more meaningful. You have no idea what is going on in another person’s life, so who are you to pass judgment on the way they act?

15. Jealousy

Happiness is not having what you want; it’s wanting what you have. Stop envying others and learn to appreciate what you have. Everyone’s life is unique; you have certain things to offer that others cannot. When we act in a jealous manner, all we do is bring negative feelings into our lives. There is absolutely nothing to gain from behaving this way.

16. Insecurity

Happy people tend to have extremely high levels of self-esteem. They accept who they are and work it everyday of their lives. They radiate confidence, flaunt their pride and give off positive vibes. There is no reason to be insecure in life. If there are things you are self-conscious about, go out into the world and seek to change them. Only you have the ability to create the best version of yourself.

17. Depending On Others For Happiness

At the end of the day, the only person you can count on 100 percent of the time is yourself. Do not make the unfortunate mistake many people do and put your happiness in the hands of others. A relationship is not going to fulfill the void if you can’t even make yourself happy. You need to achieve happiness on your own before you can find someone else to share it with. This creates a detrimental dependency that will prevent you from becoming self-sufficient.

18. The Past

Stop living in the past! There is virtually nothing you can gain if you wallow in mistakes you have previously made. Take past mistakes as lessons learned, and move forward. You cannot wholeheartedly move on to a better future if you are constantly looking behind you. Things happened, and that’s that. Take them with a grain of salt and move on.

19. The Need For Control

Sometimes you just need to let life happen the way it is meant to. You cannot spend your life stressing about things that are outside of your control. Try to relax, and let things play out naturally. Embrace the unknown, as this is where you will be surprised the most. Let yourself be whisked into unforeseen endeavors, and relish in the excitement they bring.

20. Expectations

Managing your expectations is the key to happiness. If you let go of expectations, you will never be disappointed. Often, we tend to believe that the way we treat others will be the way we are treated in return. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. Do not expect a certain result from any given situations. Go into an experience with an open mind. This will allow you to fully immerse yourself, without the pressure of living up to preconceived notions.

Monday Motivation: If I Could Tell My Young Self What I Know Now

Another week, another Monday. As we drag ourselves to work and school, we can always use some motivation to get ourselves going. This is another article I saw on Elite Daily written by Lena Oh and this is my favorite one yet. I’m only 22, but I feel like if I could go back in time and tell my 15 year old self what I know right now, I’d save myself a lot of troubles and frustrations in the future. As we grow up, we experience and as we experience we gain lessons that we can use in our lives. . This list is a great reminder of what we’ve learned up to know and what we need to remind ourselves when the going gets rough.

People will come and go.

I think until recently, I’ve had difficulty accepting this fact. Certain people in your life will come and go: friends, significant others, colleagues, classmates, etc. I used to dwell on the past through old posts from Facebook timelines, old pictures, old letters, old videos, or songs that would instantly remind me of some person, place, time period, or memory. And after viewing those things, I’d recall all the memories that I had with that particular person, and although good, the nostalgia stung my heart a bit.

I’d wonder about what those people are doing now, what they’ve been up to, what made us drift, or if our dynamic could ever be the same again. And with certain people, it may be a blessing and a relief that they are no longer in my life, but with others, I had wished that our paths would align again.

Paradoxically, the memories made me sad and happy all at the same time. But if I could tell my young self what I know now, I’d remind her that this is just a natural process in life. Sometimes it’s controllable, but other times, it’s out of our power and there’s a time to let go. People that you were once inseparable from are now merely strangers. But if you and that person (whomever it may be) are meant to be in each other’s lives, it’ll happen when it’s the right time.

You will meet several “prince charmings” before you find your king.

I’ve been in several relationships, each wondering if this guy would be the “one”. And whether I broke it off or he broke it off, there would always be disappointment in the end. Breakups are inevitable, and everyone will go through them at least once in their lifetime. It’s a difficult period, but it’ll help you grow.

You’ll learn more about yourself and what you want in a man (or even don’t want). Don’t ever chase after a man, either. It’s reasonable to fight for the one you love, but don’t ever chase. A man will go where he wants to go, and stay if he wants to stay. And even if he does give in and comes back, that doesn’t help. You should be with a man, not because you were able to convince him, but because you didn’t need to. Don’t ever settle for less than what you deserve, or else you’ll get even less than what you settled for. You are no man’s consolation prize.

Be selfish when it comes to your happiness.

When I say to be selfish when it comes to your happiness, I don’t mean if it hurts other people (i.e. stealing, deception). I mean to be selfish when other people rob you of the opportunity to be happy. If a man is toying with your heart, end it civilly and let him go. You don’t deserve to spend your nights crying. There are other people in the world who love you and want the best for you. Learn to love yourself and don’t ever let anyone keep you from the pursuit of happiness that you’re entitled to.

I once directed all my passion and emotions to the wrong things and wrong people, until I realized how much more fulfilling my life would be if I rerouted that energy towards my dreams, ambitions, and aspirations. And as a result, I was blessed beyond description with new opportunities. I only wish I had implemented this advice sooner in my life.

Appreciate your parents and let them know that you love them as often as you can.

For every second of my 22 years of life, my parents have been there. You may not appreciate them when you’re younger, but the older you get, the more you realize how much sacrifice, hard work, and dedication, these two people have given to give you the best opportunities in your life. The reason I graduated with a bachelor’s degree this year is because of these two people. I’d be nothing without them.

So when they nag about studying and valuing your education, or discipline you for lying, know that it’s because they love you and want you to be a good person of character, who makes a positive difference in this world. Your parents are the only people who will bust their asses to provide the best life for you.

Love them while they’re still alive, because when you’re old and they’re gone, you’ll regret not appreciating them enough. So stay on the phone for a few extra minutes; don’t be so eager to hang up or leave the house to go out with your friends. Cook them dinner; do some extra chores around the house. Do small things to make it easier for them to breathe.

Forgive.

There are so many people who have hurt me. But on the other hand, there are so many people that I have hurt, as well. The most precious gift that I’ve ever received is grace and mercy. When I made mistakes and was forgiven, I felt such a relief to know that the bad blood was gone. Reciprocate love and kindness.

How can you expect forgiveness from others, when you can’t do the same? That girl at school who mistreated you out of jealousy? Forgive. The friend who deceived and backstabbed you? Forgive. Be compassionate, show mercy and love this person, even when they least deserve it. That’s actually when they need it the most.

It’s a sign of maturity when you understand someone has hurt you, yet you still feel the power to wish them the best. Keep on loving them. I promise you’ll eventually make even a cold, unemotional person cry. Love those around you unconditionally and relentlessly.

If you have a good relationship/friendship, don’t lose it over your pride.

Sometimes, it’s good to stand up for yourself and keep your pride. But in other circumstances, being too prideful can end up hurting you. Apologizing doesn’t always mean that you’re at fault and are wrong. Sometimes, it just shows that you value the relationship with the other person more than you value holding onto your pride and ego.

Be productive; don’t be so lazy; don’t procrastinate.

I wish I could’ve emphasized this to my younger self. I spent all my precious time on insignificant things, and I will never get that time back. Wake up early and do what you need to do. Seize your day and own it! Wake up a few minutes earlier to get your day started. Do simple things, like leaving early so that you don’t hit traffic.

What a waste of a precious day to be spent sitting in traffic. Don’t be so lazy about small things like charging your phone or driving until your gas meter is past empty. Nothing gives me more anxiety than when my phone battery is at less than 10 percent, or when I’m paranoid that my car is going to stop on the freeway.

Bad company corrupts good character.

Don’t give into peer pressure. Even if you’re the most independent person and think you can make your own decisions for yourself, habits from the people around you can desensitize you. You know it’s not right to drink and drive. So don’t, even if your friends do it. You vowed as a kid to never get into drugs, so be cautious about being friends with people who do it so nonchalantly.

Just because some girls call themselves “bad bitches” doesn’t mean you should label yourself as so. Label yourself a beautiful, extraordinary, unique woman. You will realize that your reputation will be the most important thing. Surround yourself with good influences.

Be a decent human being.

No matter what your status is, acknowledge the small things people do for you. Nothing annoys me more than when people think they’re entitled. Thank the person that takes the time to hold your door open for you, or when they let you get into their crowded lane on the road. Life is hard for everyone. We all have struggles; we all have worries.

We’re all trying to make it. No decent human being should build his or her happiness on another person’s pain. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Don’t have a cold, unsympathetic heart. Be kind to your waiter, or to the janitor at your school. Nothing is worse than an ungrateful person. Evaluate yourself, be respectful, and stay humble.

Be grateful for everything.

Big or small, appreciate the things that you’re blessed with, whether it’s good health, an opportunity to have an education, your family, your friends, the roof over your head, or something as simple as an umbrella when it’s raining. I’m grateful and thankful for the sounds of laughter coming from the people I love in my life. When you remind yourself what you’re blessed with (rather than what you wish you had), you end up living a more fulfilling life.

Don’t listen to Drake’s Take Care album after midnight.

It’s a good album, but you’ll have sleepless nights, and late night thoughts are the worst.

Don’t have expectations.

They can lead to disappointment. Have goals and dreams, but don’t have expectations. Sometimes we expect more from others just because we would be willing to do that much for them, but that’s what leads to disappointment. Do things for others without expecting anything in return. That way when you do get something, you’ll be happy, but if you don’t get anything, you’ll be content, as well.

Don’t hold back on your dreams because you’re embarrassed about what people will say.

I wanted so badly to do many things in my life. I held back, though, because I was worried about what my peers would say. As a result, I gave up those opportunities and ended up witnessing other people live the life that I dreamed of. Go after the passions and aspirations that you have in your life now. You do only live once, so why not live the life you dream of?

You’ll feel the most pain when you witness good people go through the worst bullsh*t.

When you watch your mom and dad work hard for what they have and it crumbles before their eyes, you’ll feel the most pain. When you watch your grandparents feel the repercussions of backaches and leg problems from decades of working hard labor jobs, you’ll feel the most pain. When you witness an innocent child born with a disability that they didn’t ask for, you’ll feel the most pain. The best solution to that is to remind these people that they’re precious and loved.

The secret to living a happy life is to let go.

Let go of pain; let go of anger; let go of regret; let go of resentment; let go of the past; let go of mistakes; let go of the ex; let go of the disappointment. Surrender it all. Why hold onto the negatives? You don’t have room for it. You want to clear out the junk to make room for the good things. And in life, it’s the same principle. If you hold onto all the pain and negativity, you’re only preventing room for the good things to enter your life. There is always a purpose or reason why certain people are removed from your life.

Think about that when you decide to hold onto, or chase after, them. Cut out the negativity. It’s a waste of space in your heart and life. How amazing is it to stay silent when someone expects you to lash out in anger? How wonderful is it to laugh when someone believes that you are going to shed tears from pain? Let go of the things that hold you back, and you’ll realize how truly beautiful your life really is.
